Witham Friary Cricket Club support We Hear You

Witham Friary junior cricket team celebrated a successful first season at Frome Cricket Club on Sunday 3rd September, when they reached the Bath & District cup final. Unfortunately they came second to a very strong, and long-unbeaten, team from Biddestone in Wiltshire, but a great day in the sunshine was had by all. The team have supported local cancer charity We Hear You since 2019 and the club kit proudly features the WHY logo, with a donation from shirt sales to benefit the charity.

Witham's junior team was launched in 2023, in response to the success of the All Stars and Dynamos coaching programme, for 5-11 year olds, inspiring a future generation of cricketers with fun and accessible training sessions. Club captain Henry Gibson said:

"We Hear You is a fantastic charity that has supported several members of the club over the years. Instead of having a commercial sponsor on our shirts, it’s great to be able to give something back. We often get questions about it, from the kids and opposition players, which helps spread the word about the great work they do as well."

Communications Officer Lucy McMahon attended the match and said "Thanks so much to Henry, Witham Friary Cricket Club, and all the talented youngsters for supporting WHY. And what a lovely day for a cricket match — we hope you had a fantastic day. The support of the communities we serve is the only reason we can keep offering our free specialist services for people affected or bereaved by a life-threatening diagnosis."
