Cancer charity We Hear You (WHY) is celebrating a donation from Somerset Freemasons. Shepton Mallet’s lodge of Love and Honour no. 285 raised £5,991 for WHY at a glitzy ‘Gatsby Ladies’ Night’ in Pilton and at a lodge Christmas fundraiser in 2021. Debbie Christensen, organiser of the Gatsby event, said:

“Michael and I wanted to find a local charity to support that would have been directly hit from lack of face-to-face funding during the lockdowns. We also wanted to find a charity that works with all ages and provides emotional holding for those most in need. Fighting any disease, but especially cancer, takes both physical and emotional strength. Bodily healing can only occur when all of our social and emotional needs are met as well. We Hear you fitted into all of our criteria and we are delighted to be able to help raise these funds."

Gemma Wilkes, Fundraising and Communications Manager at We Hear You, said “We’re so grateful to Debbie, her husband Michael and the lodge for supporting We Hear You. The fantastic amount raised will help us provide more than 136 free specialist counselling sessions for children and adults coping with the emotional impact of cancer or a life threatening condition. The need for WHY’s services is huge and ever-growing and the generosity of local people and organisations is the reason we’re able to meet that need. Thanks so much again to everyone involved in organising the events and to those who came along and donated so generously.”
