Santa Dash 2018 and a great festive season at WHY

We Hear You’s (WHY) annual Santa Dash took place on Sunday 9th December and saw 114 locals run a festive 4k around the Old Showfield dressed as Father Christmas to raise money for a free counselling service for people affected by cancer. The final total will be confirmed in 2019 as sponsorship money is still coming in.

Gemma Wilkes, Fundraising and Communications at WHY, says, ‘Thanks so much to all our Santas, our team of volunteers who helped with registration, safety pinned a lot of race numbers and made hot drinks and cakes for our sporting heroes. Special thanks to Frome Running Club who made it all run like clockwork and provided the marshals and expertise. Possibly the biggest thanks of all is due to the weather for NOT adding freezing sleet, ice and howling winds to the proceedings this time. This is such a fun event and it’s great to see so many people getting involved. All the money raised will help us to reach people coping with one of the hardest things that life can throw at us: the experience of a life threatening diagnosis.’

‘In addition to the Santa Dash, we’re delighted to say it’s been a very busy but also a very successful winter at WHY. Our Winter Wonderland party in November set the tone, raising just under £7000 , with the fun casino provided by Jamie of Fun Casino Fun proving especially popular. Our first ever Christmas Fair in Frome Town Hall raised £1300. We’ve been active at the three branches of Sainsbury’s who chose us as their charity of the year in the summer – get your raffle tickets from Sainsbury’s Frome before 21st December for a chance to win a £200 shopping voucher in time for Christmas! Thanks so much to everyone who raised money for us via their own events and challenges this year – we’re starting our 25th anniversary year on a high and that has everything to do with you.’
