Local fundraiser Rachel Clark is hosting a virtual reunion mile of her 2019 ‘365 for WHY’ running challenge on Saturday 29th May, in aid of cancer counselling charity We Hear You (WHY). Rachel ran a mile every day in 2019, raising more than £20,000 for WHY. The reunion mile is timed to coincide with the 10th anniversary of Rachel losing her mum Shirley, the inspiration for all her fundraising since 2011. Rachel says:

‘When I lost my mum I needed support in a way I’d never experienced before. Counselling really helped me and I wanted to give something back, so I started fundraising for WHY in 2011. This year the challenge is ’10 years’ to mark a decade of fundraising - a different challenge every month of 2021. This challenge is a special one because of the timing; it’s also a celebration of the surprisingly tough but fantastic ‘365 for WHY’ challenge that more than 5,000 of you got involved with in 2019. On 29th May, wherever you are, any time of the day, get out and run or walk a mile. Wear a WHY t-shirt if you have one and make a donation to https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/10years. Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far – watch this space for an announcement about a special challenge later this year!’

WHY’s Fundraising and Communications Manager Gemma Wilkes says:

‘Rachel and Team Clark have raised almost £65,000 for WHY in the last 10 years and also helped countless people find out about the support we offer. Every charity needs a Rachel and we’re so pleased to celebrate ten years of working together to help people affected by cancer and life threatening conditions’
