Together, we saved WHY - Thank You
Over the past few months, We Hear You (WHY) has experienced one of the most challenging periods in our charity’s 30‑year history. Faced with rising demand for our counselling services and a difficult funding landscape, we launched an emergency appeal to protect the support that children, young people and adults across Somerset, Bath & North East Somerset and Wiltshire rely on every day.
We are deeply proud - and incredibly relieved - to share that our community came together and raised the funding needed to secure WHY’s immediate future.
Thanks to you, WHY has been saved.
From the moment we shared the reality of our situation, the response was extraordinary. Donations arrived from individuals, families, workplaces, schools, community groups, clubs, and local businesses. People ran, walked, baked, gave, sponsored, and shared our message with astonishing generosity and heart.
Our WHY Relay - an unforgettable 24‑hour community event - became a symbol of solidarity and collective determination. Every runner, volunteer, donor and cheerleader helped carry WHY through those crucial hours. We will never forget what our community made possible together.
Because of you:
Our counselling service can continue without interruption.
Children, young people and adults facing cancer or a life‑threatening condition still have somewhere safe to turn.
Families coping with fear, grief and trauma will continue to receive emotional support.
Our practitioners, who work every day with people in crisis, can continue their essential work.
WHY begins the new financial year with stability and hope.
Your donations have given us the breathing room we urgently needed. While we are no longer in immediate crisis, the challenges facing small charities remain real - but thanks to you, we now have the time and space to address them properly.
Alongside this good news, we want to be honest and transparent.
Like many charities, we continue to face rising demand, increasing complexity of need, and a tough funding environment. To meet that challenge, we are focusing on stabilisation, strengthening, and building long‑term financial resilience.
With your support, and the determination of our staff, volunteers, trustees and partners, we feel confident in the path ahead.
Over the coming months we will share updates about:
How your donations are being used
The impact your generosity is having on local families
Our progress through our year of recovery
New opportunities to get involved
This appeal has shown us something powerful: WHY matters deeply to this community - and you want us to stay.
For everyone who donated, fundraised, volunteered, shared our posts, joined an event, or simply held us in your thoughts: thank you. You helped protect a lifeline for people facing their darkest moments.
We often say that no one should face the emotional impact of cancer or a life‑threatening condition alone.
You have made sure that remains true.
Thank you for saving WHY.
Thank you for standing with us - and with the people we support.
