Supporters take on 'Great' challenge for WHY....

Two supporters of We Hear You have headed to China to take on the challenge of a lifetime.

Dot Cretney, 68 and Karl Waldeck, 47, have chosen to undertake a trek across the Great Wall of China in aid of the charity, which provides counselling services across Bath and North East Somerset, Somerset and Wiltshire, to people affected by cancer and other life threatening conditions. Dot and Karl have been fundraising for WHY for the last 18 months, holding coffee mornings, race nights and quiz nights, making jam and holding raffles, to raise as much money as possible.

Dot said, “We Hear You is such an important charity. I have never done anything like this before and find getting in the car easier than putting on walking boots! I also don’t like heights! But the last few months of training is nothing compared to what people affected by life threatening conditions, such as cancer, face day in and day out and I really hope to be able to raise awareness of WHY, as well as much needed funds.”

The challenge will involve five days of trekking, including one day that is 9 hours long and one where 1000 steps will be conquered.

Karl said, “ We know that We Hear You are facing unprecedented demand for their services. I wanted to take on a new challenge and raising money for WHY at the same time has really driven me in my training. We can’t wait to get there now and get the adventure underway.”

It costs WHY £44 to provide each counselling session and between them Dot and Karl have already raised over £7,000 thanks to the tremendous support from family, friends and the local community.

They’ve worked tirelessly over the last few months, not only with all the fundraising but also with the training they’ve been doing, and we now can’t wait to see how the trek goes!!”
